FOUNDER + DIRECTOR
SONAL KOTECHA
Sonal Kotecha earned her Bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture & Design from Nottingham Trent University, UK in 2007. Shortly after graduating, fate led her on a one-way ticket to Dubai, where she built up experience working both as an in-house designer for a property developer and a multi-disciplinary interior design studio, before taking the plunge into entrepreneurship and starting Rumah Interiors in 2017.
She calls herself a child of the world – after growing up as a second generation Indian in the United Kingdom, to parents born and raised in Kenya – she moved and set up her own home base in Dubai in 2010 and credits this diverse background which has allowed her to connect on a deeper level to people & clients from all over the world.
Sonal loves getting to know her clients on a meaningful level, creating design concepts and crafting the narrative behind their interior space. Her personal design aesthetic is heavily inspired by her travels - and feels like part of her heart is in Bali, where Rumah Interiors was named. She takes great pride in spreading a little of the magic and creative inspiration from there into all of the projects she works on.

ALAA MOHAMED
Alaa graduated with honors from The American University of Sharjah with a Bachelor of Interior Design in June 2016. Since graduating, Alaa has been working with award winning firms, which helped her gain great knowledge in residential, commercial and hospitality design. Alaa joined Rumah Interiors in September 2020, and her wealth of experience has been a credit to our design team.
Alaa has an eye for detail; she’s skilled at creating wonderful designs under a variety of budgets, styles, requirements and timeframes. Across a vast range of styles, Alaa balances textures, colors, and lighting to create a space that reflects the clients’ personalities and suits their needs.
As a result of Alaa’s achievements in a short span of time, she was nominated for CID Young Interior Designer of the Year award in 2018. Following her success in the region, Alaa gained international recognition by getting nominated for the Hotel Designs 30 under 30 in London 2019.
